In 1973 Britain joined the EU Community, (not the EU Union)The Single European Act was signed. This was to create an internal market; “an area without frontiers in which the free movement of goods and persons, services and capital is ensured.
What was the EU Community - The European Communities (EC), sometimes referred to as the European Community, were three international organisations that were governed by the same set of institutions. These were the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC or Euratom), and the European Economic Community (EEC); the latter of which was renamed the European Community (EC) in 1993 by the Maastricht Treaty, which formed the European Union.
The formation of the European Union meant that laws and legislation for it's members could be made without consulting local companies or public.
So here is how the normal person may look at the EU Referendum
Remaining in the EU has it's advantages, here just a few important points to consider:
- it's easier to trade with other countries in the EU,
- easier to source skilled employees,
- easier travel to other EU countries.
However there are also disadvantages for staying in the EU, again here are a few important ones
- easier for illegal immigrants to enter the country, due to easier boarder controls from the EU
- EU citizens settling in the UK due to better employment opportunities, taking jobs away from the British people
- Overcrowding in schools effecting education,
- NHS meltdown, as the system wasn't meant to handle the size of today's population let alone the next 10 years
Other questions:
What about benefits, how long will they last, can Britain sustain a grow population if we stay in the EU?
What is the prognosis for government pensions, people are living longer?
Will we get any help from the EU if we take in more immigrants?
There are more questions but one thing is for sure, if you listen to the politicians and the campaigners you will end up being more confused.
Very simple facts for and against is what the normal person needs.
